What is the best year of film? For me it's 2014

By year, I mean any year. And also my opinion of 2014 being the best comes from the abundance of great films that have come from this year.

So, I've been looking up films from each year for a feature that I am writing on my film blog about every year of my life (I would plug it, but I've got a feeling that's against the subreddit rules), and I'm listing films to look at. A few years are pretty bad (many of the early 2000s seem to struggle, especially 2003), but then some years are amazing. 2014 seemed like a stellar year.

Here are a list of films that I have personally seen that were very impressive: Whiplash, Boyhood, The Lego Movie, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Bad Neighbours (or Neighbors for you Americans), The Fault in Our Stars, Foxcatcher, 22 Jump Street, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Inbetweeners 2, Birdman, Wild, Nightcrawler, The Theory of Everything, Gone Girl, Fury, Big Hero 6, Interstellar, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, Kingman: The Secret Service.

Then there is the ones that I haven't seen, but hear good things about: Frank, Dear White People, 20,000 Days on Earth, ’71, Chef, It Follows, The Imitation Game, John Wick, Mr Turner, Selma, The Babadook.

Especially from October to December, this list has a crazy number of brilliant films. I can actually remember watching Nightcrawler in the cinema and being blown away by how good it was before being angry that it did not get any Oscar nominations. In hindsight, it's easy to see why with so many strong movies. Boyhood and Gone Girl were other particular highlights for me.

What year is a particular standout for you?
