For those of you who loved The Great Escape and The Bridge on the River Kwai, please check out Billy Wilders Stalag 17. An absolutely fantastic film about American prisoners in a German camp who think they may have a spy among them.
The film is an excellent blend of comedy, drama and thrills. One the one hand it got a lot of laughs out of me, but it also keeps you on the edge when it gets serious. The central story and mystery is very intriguing, and the reveal made me wonder if I had missed any hints throughout the film. In fact, I plan on rewatching it just for this reason. The ending is absolutely thrilling and satisfying. William Holden gives a great performance as usual.
