Sooooo anyone here think I should Watch Blade runner before I watch 2049? And which version should I watch?

Hey. So I'm a huge movie buff but blade runner is like the only huge film I haven't seen...I know. Next week, im dying to see Blade Runner 2049. It looks fantastic.

Problem is...I don't know if I should watch the old one. I love sci-fi, good sci-fi, and if something in general gets good reviews, even if I don't like the film it'll still make sense to me why people like it. But I'm hesitant to watch the original. Here are my reasons:

1. It might be so good it makes Blade Runner 2049 pale in comparison(if the movie is a let down)

2. I can judge 2049 on its own merits

3. I wanna go in blind not knowing anything about the world of Blade Runner

4. It looks outdated

All of these things are Reasons why I'm hesitant. Should I still watch it anyway? Does it still hold up today? I hate outdated material, yet at the same time can acknowledge why 99% of classics are considered good even if I dislike them. Just need opinions, answers will be much appreciated!

Also, which version should I watch? When you watch Blade Runner, what's YOUR definite version?
