Is the Assassin's Creed movie (and possibly the games too, I've just not played em) just a thinly veiled metaphor for the current state of obsession with Apple products?

I mean the movie is literally about an evil corporation trying to control the free will of everyone in the world with an Apple. As mentioned, I've not played the games so I have no idea if they follow the same plot. I did a cursory google search and I can't seem to find any reference to the metaphor aspect of the movie. Or am I overthinking it?
