The Dark Tower is Shockingly Watchable

Ok, as a huge Dark Tower fan, this movie is depressing. It is the cliff notes version of all the books butchered and distilled down to a single YA film.

If I were just looking for a diverting 90 minute action/fantasy flick I'd say I enjoyed it and instantly forgot it.

The oddest thing about the film is the Easter eggs they seemingly dropped for the fans of the books, such as the Crimson King references and the image of the roses. I imagine, though, that those were bits likely played a bigger role in whatever much longer version of the film exists.

But my wife and I watched the whole thing and were never bored, which was WAY more than I expected going in, lol. Matthew McConaughey chewed every scene he was in, which was great.

For those of us crazy about the books, it's a bummer this is all we'll ever get. I guess we can hope for an animated series or something. Or maybe I'll just read the books again.
