The biggest gripe I have with Pacific Rim: Uprising isn't the CGI, but the jaeger designs.

Title says it all. After watching the new Uprising trailer a second time, I realized what was making me feel off about it. The designs of each of the jaegers are far too safe. Take, for example, Titan Redeemer. What makes him unique compared to the other jaegers? Not much. While he has a wrecking ball for a hand, and some broad shoulders, there isn't much special about him. Same can be said for Saber Athena. There are no defining design characteristics for any of the new jaegers in Uprising. Now, compare those designs to ones from the original, such as Cherno Alpha and Crimson Typhoon. Right off the bat, you can see how distinct they look. Cherno being made up of many rectangular shapes, and immediately coming off as tanky and slow. With Typhoon, he is made up of many rounder shapes, and appears much more agile. The most important part? They don't look like something a power ranger would wear. Plus they're much more memorable. In the end though, it's all up to preference. If you think the new designs are good, that's absolutely fine. I however, really appreciate some unique looking mechs.

Edit: Here is all five of them side by side.
