Question about Pulp Fiction: Why did Jules and Vincent bring Marvin with them in the car?

This is something that has always bugged me when watching this movie because it just doesn't make any sense. Jules and Vincent are sent to the apartment to get the briefcase which they do. Through various means everyone else in the apartment is killed except Marvin. Jules and Vincent could have just left him there or shot him and been on their way. Instead they take him with them. Why?
