Which historically accurate movies represent a portion of the American experience?

I'm interested in developing a list of America through film. That is, accurate history. So far I have:

Pre-American Revolution

? Anything about the first colonies?

American Revolution

  • Johnny Tremain

  • April Morning

  • John Adams

Pre Civil War

-12 Years a Slave

-Seriously, anything about War of 1812, Tripoli, the underground railroad?

American Civil War

-Gettysburg

-Gods and Generals

-Lincoln

-parts of Gone With the Wind

Reconstruction ??

The West

A big category but most are fiction

-Wyatt Earp?

-Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid? (based on real people)

Pre-WWI ?

WWI

  • Sgt York

Roaring Twenties

  • Eight Men Out

  • Z: The Beginning of Everything (? accurate, about Zelda Fitzgerald)

  • ??

Great Depression

  • Grapes of Wrath (fiction but it depicts accurate conditions)

  • The Bennie Goodman Story (not really accurate but culturally relevant)

  • Bird (Charlie Parker story)?

WWII

  • A TON of movies but most are fiction:

  • Tora Tora Tora

  • Flags of Our Father

  • Hacksaw Ridge (?)

  • First 24 minutes of Saving Private Ryan

  • The Glenn Miller Story (?)

Late 40s - 50s - The Founder (?) - About McDonalds

  • 42 (?) - How accurate?

  • Hoosiers (fiction but culturally accurate)

  • ?? Anything about development of Jazz, Swing, Rock and roll? Is the Buddy Holly Story accurate?

The 60s

  • Apollo 13

  • Mississippi Burning

  • JFK (Fiction - conspiracy theory - but had real footage and caught the zeitgeist)

The 70s

  • All the President's Men

  • Milk

  • Charlie Wilson's War (?)

The 80s

The 90s

The 2000s

The 2010s

  • Moneyball (?)

And so on. Can anyone recommend some decent, pretty accurate movies for the list?

EDITS MADE: Great ideas. Keep 'em coming! Music, sports, etc.

Thanks
