I was watching The Hobbit trilogy today with my brother and we began to talk about the high frame rate format that it was filmed in. We saw the whole trilogy in IMAX 3D with 48fps on top of that so it was quite an experience.
I remember being taken in by the format, but the reaction was mixed at best. The night before I watched The Hobbit, I saw Ang Lee's latest film Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk. I saw the standard DVD version of it and even then, the HFR was quite notable.
As a filmmaker myself, I've been thinking about High Frame Rate and whether it will have a future in filmmaking. What do you think?
