I've got a soft-spot for the "old soldier" that is just so totally sick of everything. My father and I watched a lot of war movies growing up, and I always commiserated with the too-old veteran characters.
It always seemed to be arthur Hunnicutt or Telly Savalas, even Lee Marvin sometimes played the stereotype. I can remember watching an antique Korean War movie called the Steel Helmet, and wanting to be the old sergeant so bad I could taste it.
I know I'm not the only one like this.
