What are some horror movies that are more emotional than scary?

So ‘It’ is being released in one week, and I went back to watch director Andres Muschietti’s previous film, Mama. It had its fair share of jumpscares, but I found the movie most satisfying during the most emotional moments. I felt this was a great way to make a horror film.

I was never a big fan of horror films in general, largely because of how clichéd the stories seemed to be especially towards the 3rd act. I don’t like how in all horror films, the main character fights the overpowered demon or psychopath.

So, what are some movies that don’t follow the old “fight the demon” trope and instead base its stories on character dynamics/emotions?
