Other than the fact that he looks a lot like him, why are we so sure that Sacha Baron Cohen would've properly carried a dramatic film about Freddie Mercury?

I understand this subreddit's general distaste for what is going on with the Queen biopic 'Bohemian Rhapsody' because I think we can all agree that Freddie Mercury and his demons are the interesting story to be told here, but I am genuinely confused as to why we're knocking Rami Malek over Sacha Baron Cohen as the lead role? Am I missing some string of roles that Cohen has proven himself in or are people just assuming he would've been good based off of the fact that he looks a lot like Freddie? Cohen has a stream of relatively cringe-worthy comedic roles throughout his entire career, and got his start from sketch comedy, so why are we so sure he would've portrayed the duality of Freddie Mercury's personality in a dramatic context? No bashing, please. I want to have a serious discussion about the actual merits of Cohen's proven talent thus far in his career.
