I was watching the new Beauty and the Beast last night with some family members. I always make jokes about how Gaston is the good guy in the movie and how the Beast is the bad guy. Now watching it more closely Gaston has every right to go fight the beast. Maurice wants help from the town to save Belle. Also when Belle returns she shows the Beast to the town and they've been listening to Maurice claiming the Beast is horrifying and bad news. So when Gaston and the village takes torches and pitchforks to march against the castle... He technically isn't being a bad guy. Not once does Belle tell Gaston that the Beast isn't bad or misunderstood. She uses the mirror to prove there is a beast and then they march against them. To me I feel like Gaston isn't totally a bad guy. He just misunderstood information and then we know what happens to him at the end.
