Did you know that the same David Lynch who made Mulholland Drive and Twin Peaks made The Straight Story, a straightforward heartfelt tale about a man and his tractor?

In light of the mindfuck movie post, I thought I'd shout out one of my favorite David Lynch films, in part because it's such a weird departure from his corpus. It's about a man who drives his tractor across Iowa to visit his brother Lyle who had a stroke - because his eyesight is too poor to get a proper driver's license. It's sometimes maudlin and not at all vintage Lynch, and it feels kind of surreal the whole time if you're taking note of who directed it while you're watching, but it's also just a really sweet flick (and Sissy Spacek is in it).
