Why is it US releases of Foreign movies always end up getting expensive? (Ringu and Godzilla series for example)

So the other day I was on Amazon and I saw Ringu: Anthology of Terror was $300... It has been 5 days and it's already $1,000. The movies separate are less than $5. Furthermore, from reviews I read, the Anthology of Terror edition is a "barebones" collection. Hardly any special features.

I know Classic Media editions of Kaiju films like the double pack for Rodan and War of the Gargantuas can reach into the $80 price range. Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla reaching into the $100 price range due to being out of print.

But I have never seen any Japanese movie that was released here go into the $1,000 price range. I don't think it's supply and demand. The item is $1,000 on one of the ebay entries as well. As far as I'm aware, nothing related to the Ring series is coming out (except for a book reprint of "S") and if I recall right, "Rings" didn't do too good.

Can anyone who is an expert on stuff like this tell me why they usually end up being expensive? I know they can go out of print, but $1,000 is a bit unbelievable especially when you can pay $20 for all 4 of them seperate. As far as I'm aware, not many people are scrambing for the series.
