No spoilers for Wind River.
I just saw Wind River with a few friends. When we were discussing the film, we all agreed that it was an excellent movie and that the acting was very powerful (I highly recommend that you check it out if you can, its very well done) but we all thought that the film could have been way stronger had Jeremy Renner's character a) been Native American and/or b) been played by a woman. And that's no disrespect to Renner because he gave an incredible performance and I think everyone can appreciate the financial issues behind casting a 'diverse' lead, its just that the themes of the film and the finale would have had more impact if those things were changed about the character. If you've seen the film hopefully you can understand why that would be so, but it got me curious about whether or not there were other examples of this. (I'm aware this question could open a can of worms on r/movies, sorry if it does. Please just bear in mind that I'm mostly thinking about situations where a story becomes stronger if the character is changed.)
