What common criticism of movies do you think is bullshit/not a valid critique?

For example, sometimes when people criticize survival or horror/thriller movies they'll say, "I didn't care about the character(s)" or, "I didn't have a reason to root for the character(s)." Do you really need a reason to root for someone other than the fact that they're a human being in a situation where they might die?
