Please help me with the name of this movie(s). Involves a boy and a monster.

I am sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this but idk where else this would be more appropriate.

I cannot for the life of me remember the name of these movies I watched as a child, 20+ years ago

The basics for them are as follows:

• Was about a boy (maybe the same boy) and a weird monster that had like magical powers and would help the boy and his family.

• The monster looked kind of like a lion but was pretty cheesy prolly 80's cheap effects.

• The last movie i watched ended with this monster being in the picture of Washington crossing the Delaware.

• The monster basically travelled thru time helping people in need.

I know this isnt much but it's basically all i can remember.
