mother! (medicine and migraines - what are they?)

SPOILERS I want to speculate a little bit about what the medicine mother takes really is and what her migraines mean/are because they no doubt are linked.

How I see it ‘Him’ is the creator (or god) and ‘Mother’ is Mother Nature. The house they live in is both earth and the relationship between them. He created the earth and a body for Mother’s love, or hearth, to inhabit. He needs her love in order to create - as shown by the beginning and end of the film. In order for Mother to stay, he lies and manipulates her. An example is when he says he doesn’t know what the people outside of his study want, but whilst he is telling Mother this he glances down at the baby indicating he does know.

Some things of note: -The medicine has the same veiny effect as the stone (the hearth) -The migraines occur before or during something bad happening

Mother is part of a cycle where she is created and then destroyed. A piece of her is used to create again and so a part of her previous incarnation remains in her current one. The migraines are less clear, more intuitive memories or warnings from her former self. She uses her medicine to suppress them. As soon as she stops taking it her intuition becomes clearer. She asks him if he is leaving her when he finishes her poem, she knows he’ll do something bad with her baby and in the end she finally realizes he doesn’t actually love her but it’s too late to leave him (at one point she says she’ll get started on the apocalypse which is likely foreshadowing but could also be a subconscious memory).

The medicine could be symbolic of Mother lying to herself. She knows he doesn’t really love her anymore but stops taking it when she gets pregnant and he starts writing again because in that moment he truly does love her. However, I think the medicine is a sort of synthetic love, disguised as a painkiller he’s prepared for her to keep these ‘bad memories’ at bay and keep her from leaving. He needs her love but she needs just a little bit of his as well. He might have lost his love for her after so many cycles or he might have never felt it at all.

TL;DR: The migraines are intuitive memories from her former self and/or realizations she’s in a bad relationship, the medicine is fake love to keep the memories at bay and keep her from leaving.

Any thoughts?
