In what way are other professions within the film industry besides actor as concerned as actors seem to be with the trajectory of their careers?

You see that there are patterns within acting careers that are desired differently by different actors (i.e. having gotten stuck in comedy, being typecast, becoming a genre mainstay, starting with this/that type of film, etc). To what extent is this kind of preference present in other professions within the film industry (i.e. director, writer, cinematographer, etc.)? In what ways does it manifest itself professionally?
