Have you seen Short Term 12 (2013) starring Brie Larson and John Gallagher Jr.? Please give it a go, and then help me confirm if my doubts are correct

Is Marcus Dead? I had a strange feeling at the end of the movie, which sort of set in the same tone as was the beginning of the movie.

However, since we know that the story in the beginning did not have a happy ending and John just didn't want to recount it because it was too painful, does that mean that the character of Marcus, played by Lakeith Stanfield, has succumbed to his injuries? The way the scene was shot, plus the lingering shot of Brice looking down, just makes me think that something was being implied. What do you guys think?
