Now before I start I know that people have been starting to notice my post have few things to say 1. I am a fan of Maisie Williams gets over it 2. I like Movies and I like Pitching movie and giving topics on movies so if you read a pervious post of mine just wanted to let you know.
Also this review will contain spoilers so spoiler alert. Now I got that out of the way let's begin.
Gold is a 2014 Irish Indie film starring Maisie Williams and.....A Bunch of Irish Actors I can sadly not remember the name too. The film is about a man named Rey going to see his former love and his Daughter after a 12 year absence and finds out they now live with his former P.E Teacher Frank. He stays for alittle but after a accident with Frank he then stays longer and tries to redeem himself only to end almost ruining there lives in the process.
Positives:
-
First let me say Maisie Williams does a very good Job. I have only seen her in three other things Game of thrones (obviously), The Book of Love (which deserves more credit then it's given), and IBoy (which...Just Sucks). And after seeing this I still hold I think she is one of the new young stars I can see going places and I think this role proves it.
-
The film has a very good feel good feel to it which is something a Indie film should have. But it also does not sugar code everything and does show some serious stuff as well.
-
The Actors do a great job and almost all the characters are likeable (for the most part)
-
The character of Frank is so uptight to the point where it is comical in a good way.
-
The story was great and I absolutely loved the message.
-
I loved the ending it gives you that feeling of hope.
-
I love the Irish feel the film is given.
Negatives:
-
The only character I felt could've been written better is Rey. No he is NOT completely unlikeable but he should've been written alittle better.
-
There is a Unnecessary Close up in the film
-
The Film does NOT have a release outside of the U.K and I mean not there is not even Blu-Ray's or DVD outside of Ireland and the U.K. The Only way I was able to watch it was via Netflix on my computer. Why it is only available to watch outside of Ireland and U.K on Netflix...I Don't know i honestly have no idea. My only guess is is because maybe Netflix is planning a Netflix exclusive Sequel in the future. Similar to the 100 year old man which is another Fav of mine. It got a Netflix sequel so I assume that is the case other wise i hope they release officially outside of Ireland and the U.K at some point. In fact let's start a kickstarter to get that to happen.
Conclusion: I when into this movie without even watching a trailer and i'm glad I did because this is now probably one of my favorite movies of all time. The setting of Ireland is beautiful, The characters feel real, Maisie does a great job here and has me more excited for her role in New Mutants and Early Man, The story is wonderful and moving, and the best part it is on Netflix right now if you want to watch it. Ireland should be proud.
8/10
