So, for years now, I've been gradually getting my girlfriend into movies and video games, but it's been very difficult. I didn't realize until recently that a big struggle for her finding interest in new movies (and video games), is her impressive lack of knowledge of genres and themes.
When I ask her what she's interested in, she always tells me she has no idea, and can't really compare two movies together very well. Which likely has to do with her lack of media consumption. Within each medium she's probably only experienced roughly 20 books, 20 movies, 10 TV series, and 10 video games.
I know back when I was younger and had about that much experience with story driven media that it was difficult for me to figure out what I like, disliked, and wanted to experience next. I'd imagine that's even more difficult today with the massive amount of easily accessible movies/TV series, which can often be a double-edged sword in cases like this.
TL;DR What are some of your favorite movies for each of your favorite genres/themes (or those that you perseve as the best), especially worth watching for someone relatively new to movies?
Examples... Horror: IT, probably the first horror movie I could get her to watch all the way through because she thought all horror movies would ultimately be depressing.) Western: The Hateful Eight, the only western movie I could get her to watch because she originally thought that western was boring.)
