I recently saw this film at The New Beverly, a small little theater in Beverly Hills owned by Quentin Tarantino where they screen older films. Just this past weekend they had a screening of John Carpenters Sci-Fi Horror classic The Thing, as well as his first film, Dark Star.
Dark Star was released in 1974, and the entire film takes place aboard a space vessel on a deep space mission called Dark Star. From the trailer, I expected to see a horrible, low budget sci-fi movie that was going to be so bad that it was funny. But instead, what I got was a great little sci-fi comedy that while at times it was funny bad (due to its budget limitations), it had an excellent sense of humor.
This film also had some impressive camera work as well as making great work of the sets they had. If you're into older sci-fi films, sci-fi comedies, or low budget sci-fi movies, Dark Star should definitely be on your list.
