For years, I've never been able to find confirmation on what I long considered the original ending to Joe Johnston's Jumanji. I distinctly remember watching the movie in the theatre and seeing, as IMDb puts it, "at the end of the film, Alan and Sarah give Judy and Peter a Christmas gift. In the theatrical version, the kids open their gifts up to reveal new sneakers named Jumanjis."
But after its first release on home video, that scene was forever missing. Some may cry foul and say I dreamed it up or was mistaken, but even other people on Reddit make my same claim (see link below).
I recently reached out to Jim Strain, one of the three credited writers, on Twitter. And he said that the sneaker-gifting scene was in the shooting script (also see link below). That, to me, leaves only two explanations - it was only shown in the theatrical release or all of us read a novelization that had the ending and have great imaginations. What do people remember? Does anyone have the shooting script? Does anyone have a theatrical print? Help me and everyone else get closure on this weird 22-year-old cinematic mystery.
