Do you think the school teacher in The Breakfast Club is intended to be a humorous character?

Or was he more like the antagonist as well as comedian, like the one in Ferris Bueller's Day Out, or was he a good character as he says at one point that he's worried about the kids who are the future citizens, Do you think Hughes's intention was to make the audience like/dislike him as a whole? Or do you think the only antagonist in the movie is the system in which the kids are brought up in, and not any specific person. I hope it makes sense.
