Best books about film history?

Hello everyone,

I watch a lot of movies from various points throughout film history, but I'm also interested in any books that may help supplement that education. I didn't go to school for film because I became truly interested after those days had passed.

So, like my title states, which books, or any media really, on film history might you recommend to someone that is looking to beef up their general knowledge about the subject?
