Anyone else frustrated with how the writers progressively ruined Jack Sparrow?

CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow* The character was always "off" with his weird mannerisms but he had a charm about him in the earlier films. He gradually degraded over the course of each movie but the last two really stand out. The writers left him with zero purpose other than being a lucky/stumbling idiot with no depth. In the earlier movies behind his goofy decision making he always had some form of a intelligent plan or scheme. It was more about having people under estimate him and being caught off guard (Jack stealing the coin and becoming undead during the fight with Barbossa)

The third movie gets some hate but honestly I adored the first 3 films, but I could not finish Stranger Tides. Stranger Tides is when writers seemed to have entirely forgot what Jack Sparrow was about and went full blown comedic relief with the character. Call me fooled but after being unable to finish Stranger Tides when the trailer for Dead Men tell no Tales came out I instantly became hyped. Javier Bardem and Jack was not even in the first trailer so it gave me great hope that whoever was writing this was not banking on Jack Sparrow for sales so maybe they had a lot of confidence in the film as a whole.

Wrong. The CGI young Jack Sparrow was the best Jack we've gotten in 2 movies with 2 minutes of screen time. Jack did not have 1 purposeful interaction in the whole movie. I cant blame Depp for tagging along and collecting a payday, I just wish we could have gotten writers who understood why the character was quirky in the first films and not turn him into a 100% full blown drunken idiot.
